Hello again!

So, since my last journal entry a few months back, lots of things have happened!

Since I'm too lazy to summarize some of them, here's a list:

- I have a permit now. Go ME!

- I'm a Senior. OMGWTFBBQ HURRY UP MAY!

- I'm officially taking an official Japanese class! My high school offered an online language class for it for the first time this year (partly from my own suggestion) and it's awesome! I'm learning things better than I did on my own, but my self-teaching still placed me ahead of the other people in the class. So I basically get to learn new things AND help the newbies ^_^.

- I'm undergoing a huge coding project for my website because I feel that it's about time I updated the four-year-old layouts that I didn't even code in the first place (I just designed them).

- College of choice: University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona
Reason: Best Game Design degree program of all other school choices and is an epically awesome school to begin with.
Chance of me getting in: 95%

- New manga obsessions: Nabari no Ou. Because it's the only ninja manga I know of that successfully pwns Naruto in every way possible, including BL-wise. I mean seriously, Naruto and Sasuke have absolutely NOTHING on Yoite and Miharu >D.


Yeah, that's about all the new shit I can think of to tell you...well, that and I just realized how big my backlog of art is. I mean, I still have random WIPs in my hard drive that I'd intended to place here and never got around to finishing it. Then I also have various art in my 4/5 sketchbooks that I never got around to scanning...


So ANYway, I've been wondering something for a little while now.

I've been following Archie's Sonic comics as best as I can without having to get a subscription. So recently in Sonic Universe they introduced some characters that are the (possible?) kids of current characters in the main comic storyline. Now, as cool as that is, there's one major thing that's been bugging me to death.

WHY on Earth has Archie's character design department apparently fallen into a stereotype when it comes to gender-animal allignments when it comes to the kids of two anthropromorphic animals who aren't the same animal? Example: Tails and Mina are married in the current Sonic Universe arc (which btw is apparently set 30 years in a possible future from the current comic's timeline). They have two kids, a son and a daughter. Their son, remarkably, looks EXACTLY like Tails (the only minor difference being his hair and just a tiny bit his fur color) and their daughter looks, shockingly, exactly like Mina. Tails is a fox, Mina is a mongoose. WHY on Earth do NEITHER of their kids have crossbreed-like appearences like they should? Why is it that the son and the daughter are near exact mirrors of their parents?

Oh, and it's not just those two. Bunnie and Antoine's kids follow the same formula. So do Sonic and Sally's kids. Lara-Su is apparently the only one who escaped this formula and she looks more like what the child of two different echidnas should look like (a nice little mix of both with her own uniqueness).

But WHY are their six borderline-fanchild characters that follow the TV trope that I currently can not recall the name of? Why? Can anyone explain this to me? I mean, I know the main storyline already has like a gazillion characters, but do those kids have to suffer from lack of creativity? I'm pretty sure at least one of Tails' kids could've inherited a fox tail and not be an actual fox. That's what happens with crossbreeds in real life and in fiction. So why are they breaking this logical fact and following a stereotype/trope path instead?
